The 52-year-old singer and actress passed away this morning following a lengthy battle with the disease.
She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010, but after having a mastectomy and undergoing chemotherapy announced in October of that year that she was cancer-free.
However, in a cruel twist of fate the disease returned last year and spread to her brain, bones, lungs and liver.
A spokesperson for Bernie’s family gave the following statement:
“Bernie passed away peacefully this morning with all of her family around her. The entire family are devastated to have lost beloved Bernie, a wonderful wife, adoring mother and loving sister, she is irreplaceable.
“They kindly ask people to respect their privacy at this difficult time.”
Nolan played regular roles in ITV cop drama The Bill and Channel 4’s Brookside, as well as appearing in numerous theatre productions, while her music career saw her perform as the lead singer of The Nolans alongside her sisters.
