The 39-year old actress and TV presenter – best known for playing EastEnders Sam Mitchell for several stints between 1990 and 2010 – was subjected to a 72-hour sexual assault in 1994 at the height of her addiction to cocaine.
Having failed to pay off a £5,000 drug debt, she was whisked away to a rented property and given date rape drug Rohypnol before the assault took place.
Danniella told the paper: “The thing I have to do now is go to the police and report it because I want to be able to help other people who’ve been in the same situation as me.
“But it frightens the crap out of me as I know the comebacks on my family could be huge. I have got kids today, I didn’t when it happened.
“I am frightened about the repercussions. You can’t mess around with these people, they’re not worried about the police.
“I don’t know who the men are who did this to me but I know they were connected to somebody I used to know.
“I don’t know if that person I owed money to is still alive because I never saw him again.”
Danniella went on to discuss how she felt as she produced her recent autobiography ‘Faith, Hope and Clarity’, in the book the actress revealed the sex attack for the first time.
“It has been a nightmare reliving everything to write the book – five months of hell really. It has helped to talk about it now but it didn’t while I was writing it. ”
In addition to her role as Mitchell daughter Sam, Westbrook recently starred in Hollyoaks as ex-convict Trudy, and took part in I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2003.
