Bhattacharjee had been missing since July 10, with family members and celebrities including Stephen Fry appealing for information as to his whereabouts.
He was last seen leaving rehearsals at London’s Royal Court Theatre and heading towards a Tube station.
Friends said that he appeared to be in good spirits, and he sent a text message to his girlfriend later that evening.
Officers in Sussex informed Scotland Yard this morning (July 17) that a body matching Bhattacharjee’s description had been discovered on Friday (July 12).
The body is now confirmed to be that of Bhattacharjee whose death is not being treated as suspicious.
53-year-old Bhattacharjee’s other credits include Casino Royale and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.
In EastEnders he played the role of Inzamam Ahmed, the controlling elder brother of Masood in a handful of episodes between 2008 and 2010.
