The Sun reports that Stephanie Cole has left Coronation Street.
The 71-year-old actress has played the role of Roy Cropper’s (David Neilson) formidable mother Sylva Goodwin in the soap since April 2011.
The character soon became a fan favourite thanks to her quick-fire putdowns.
The newspaper reports that Sylvia’s exit will be linked to daughter-in-law Hayley’s (Julie Hesmondhalgh) on-going pancreatic cancer storyline.
Cole has already filmed her final scenes for the soap to air later this year.
A spokesperson confirmed on Twitter that the actress has left Weatherfield “for the time being”.
