Coronation Street: Chris Fountain sacked over offensive rap videos

Chris Fountain as Tommy Duckworth in Corrie

Coronation Street star Chris Fountain has been sensationally axed from the soap after filming a series of offensive rap videos and posting them on Youtube.

In the videos the 25-year-old actor appeared as his masked alter-ego ‘The Phantom’ whilst performing the offensive raps which included lyrics about violence and rape.

Fountain has played the role of Tommy Duckworth in the long-running ITV serial since 2011.

Last week, he made a groveling apology for the videos which had been blasted by a rape charity.

The videos were brought to the attention of the soap’s bosses by The Sun and were, according to the actor, filmed over a year ago.

Chris Fountain’s contract with ITV has been terminated as a result of the unacceptable comments he made in a number of online clips. – ITV spokesman

It is unclear whether the character of Tommy will be given an exit storyline or whether he will simply stop appearing in the soap once episodes already filmed have transmitted.
