Coronation Street shoot scene to explain Tommy Duckworth exit

Chris Fountain as Tommy Duckworth in Corrie

The Daily Star reports that Coronation Street have already filmed an extra scene to explain the absence of Tommy Duckworth.

Chris Fountain, who has played the role of Tommy since 2011, was fired from the soap yesterday after filming a series of offensive rap videos and posting them on Youtube.

In the videos the actor appeared as his masked alter-ego ‘The Phantom’ performing the offensive raps which included lyrics about rape and violence.

Last week, he made a grovelling apology for the videos but was blasted by a rape charity.

The videos were, according to Fountain, filmed over one year ago but were recently brought to the attention of the ITV soap’s bosses by The Sun.

The 25-year-old actor held crunch talks with producers yesterday who decided to terminate his contract.

I completely understand that ITV had no choice but to terminate my contract today. I have had two wonderful years playing Tommy Duckworth with only happy memories of my time on Coronation Street. – Fountain

The Daily Star says that Tommy’s absence will be explained by on/off girlfriend Tina McIntyre (Michelle Keegan) who tells David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) that Tommy has gone away after the pair had a huge row.

Tina apparently tells David “Tommy proper kicked off. He packed a bag and went off to the airport.”

The scene filmed yesterday has been added into a forthcoming episode.
