The actress recently filmed scenes as her iconic alter-ego Peggy Mitchell which will transmit a week on Friday (20 September).
Peggy’s return sees her visit son Phil (Steve McFadden) in hospital after he was involved in a car crash caused by Carl White’s (Daniel Coonan) purposely erratic driving.
With Phil out of action, Carl is enjoying his new top dog status in Walford and can’t resist meddling in Phil’s business affairs. Seeing Phil at a low ebb, Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) realises that drastic action is called for and contacts the one person who can get through to him.
Peggy soon responds to the family distress call and arrives to see her eldest with a clear mission in mind – to make Phil pull himself together, get back to his family and protect his businesses from Carl but will she succeed?

Insiders note that the scenes are reminiscent of Windsor’s first appearance in the role of Peggy back in 1994 when Peggy visited Phil in hospital during the ‘Sharongate’ fallout.
Peggy was last seen in 2010 walking away from Walford after her beloved Queen Vic pub went up in flames. In real life, Barbara Windsor had decided to quit the popular role admitting that the soap’s gruelling schedule was beginning to take its toll.
The character has been at the centre of some of the soap’s most memorable plots over the years including her iconic slapping session with love rival Pat Evans in 1998, her tumultuous relationships with Frank Butcher and Archie Mitchell, as well as her battle with breast cancer for which Windsor won a best actress award in 1999.
