Operation Tuleta: Former Sun journalist charged

The Metropolitan Police has announced that former Sun journalist Benjamin Ashford has been charged with possessing criminal property and unauthorized access to a computer.

Operation Tuleta was set up by the Met Police to investigate computer hacking and other acts not covered by Operation Elveden and Operation Weeting. All three operations were formed following  phone-hacking revelations at News of the World.

Ashford, 34, was charged with possessing criminal property, namely a mobile telephone knowing or suspecting it to constitute a person’s benefit from criminal conduct (Contrary to section 329(1) Proceeds of Crime Act 2002.) and causing a computer to perform a function with intent to secure unauthorised access to a program or data held in a computer, knowing that such access was unauthorised (Contrary to section 1(1) Computer Misuse Act 1990).

He was bailed to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 15 October.
