The corporation has taken the decision to continue with the programme and from early next year it will air in a new monthly half-hour slot on BBC Four, with repeats on BBC Two.
Having aired since 24 April 1957 The Sky at Night is one of the longest running programmes on television.
The series was presented by Sir Patrick Moore (pictured) from its inception up until his death last year. It is currently presented by Lucie Green and Chris Lintott.
