Last night’s Strictly Come Dancing was full of ghosts and ghouls as hosts Sir Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly invited the eleven remaining couples to take to the dance floor for the Halloween special in a bid to impress judges Len Goodman, Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood, and the viewers at home.
Tonight Countdown co-presenter Rachel Riley became the fifth celebrity to be eliminated from the show.
Rachel and professional partner Pasha Kovalev found themselves in the dance-off this week alongside model Abbey Clancy and Aljaž Skorjanec. This is the second time that Rachel has been in the dance off.
The eleven remaining couples danced a Quickstep, Charleston, Paso, Jive, Viennese Waltz, American Smooth, Tango and Rumba. The judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ votes to decide the lowest scoring two couples facing the dance off.
Both couples then performed their routines again; Abbey and Aljaž did their Rumba to ‘Stay’ by Shakespeare’s sister, and Rachel and Pasha performed their American Smooth to ‘Put A Spell On You’ by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins.
After both couples had danced a second time, the judges delivered their verdicts with Craig, Darcey and Bruno all choosing to save Abbey.
Craig Revel Horwood said: I would like to save Abbey and Aljaž.
Darcey Bussell said: Both couples performed even better tonight, so it’s very difficult, but the couple I have to save is Abbey and Aljaž.
Bruno Tonioli said: It’s very difficult because you both did very, very well, but I would like for Abbey and Aljaž to stay.
With three judges all agreeing to save Abbey, Head Judge Len Goodman added afterwards that he would have also voted the same as his colleagues.
Tonight’s results show also featured a performance from Madness, singing ‘La Luna’.
Next week Strictly Come Dancing is on Saturday 9th November at 6.30pm, and will be marking Remembrance Day, with the results show on Sunday 10th November at 7.20pm on BBC One and BBC One HD.
Looking back at her time in the competition with Pasha, Rachel said:
I haven’t cried until now, I have made some amazing friends.
I really enjoyed tonight, I really enjoyed yesterday’s dance so I’m really pleased to go out on a high. Abbey is just gorgeous, a gorgeous dancer, a gorgeous girl and I have no shame in getting knocked out to her.
I have just loved it – from the make-up, to the hair – the whole show.
[Pasha] is just the nicest person in the world. He couldn’t have looked after me better, it has just been an absolute pleasure.
