The actress behind Kate Ramsay has announced she is to leave Neighbours.
Ashleigh Brewer has told Digital Spy that she is quitting the Australian soap after five years playing Kate Ramsay. The 22-year-old arrived in Ramsay Street alongside her siblings Harry (Will Moore) and Sophie (Kaiya Jones) in 2009.
Brewer’s character has been at the centre of some major storylines over recent years including one which will come to its conclusion next month. Her one-night stand with Kyle Canning (Christopher Milligan) earlier in the year is to be exposed.
The revelation will see her close friendship with Georgia Brooks (Saskia Hampele) be tested as everyone learns that Kate slept with her best friend’s boyfriend. Mark Brennan (Scott McGregor) will also be making a return to Erinsborough early next year hoping to rekindle the romance between him and Kate.
“Having now been on Neighbours for over five years, I really feel like I’ve done my character justice and the time is right to close this chapter and open the next exciting one.
I’m incredibly grateful for the time I’ve spent on Neighbours and now I’m ready to challenge myself in a new and different ways. I also want to do more travelling, something I haven’t been able to do.” – Statement released to Digital Spy
It is not yet known when Kate will depart Neighbours although it is expected to be some time in 2014.
Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5.
