It was a sparkling seaside special to remember as this weekend’s Strictly Come Dancing was broadcast live from the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

Hosts Sir Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daley welcomed the remaining nine couples onto the world famous dance floor for another chance to impress judges Len Goodman, Darcey Bussell, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood, and the viewers at home.

The show opened in spectacular fashion with a carnival Samba which saw over 80 dancers fill the floor, including twelve juvenile champions aged between ten and 14, as well as ballroom veterans performing alongside the Strictly celebrities and professional dancers.

Between them, the nine remaining couples danced a Quickstep, Charleston, Paso Doble, Jive, American Smooth and a Samba. The judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ votes to decide the lowest scoring two couples facing the dance off.

Tonight actress Fiona Fullerton became the seventh celebrity to be eliminated from the show.  Fiona and professional partner Anton du Beke found themselves in the dance-off alongside actor Mark Benton and Iveta Lukosiute.

Both couples then performed their routines again; Mark and Iveta did their Jive to ‘You Can’t Stop the Beat’, from Hairspray, and Fiona and Anton performed their American Smooth to ‘Come Fly with Me’ by Frank Sinatra.

After both couples had danced a second time, the judges delivered their verdicts with Craig saving Fiona and Anton, and Darcey and Bruno choosing to save Mark and Iveta. It was then down to Len as Head Judge to cast the final decision.

It’s very, very close here. I gave them both eight when they danced first time round. The thing is in the dance-off, you’ve really got to up your game or nerves stifle your performance.

One couple I felt really did up their game. The other I think nerves got them and there was a lot of mistakes going on, and for that reason I’m going to save Mark. – Len Goodman

Tonight’s results show also featured a performance by internationally renowned violinist and conductor André Reiu, plus an exclusive performance from the multi-award winning JLS with their new single Billion Lights.

Next week Strictly Come Dancing is on Saturday 23rd November at 6.30pm, with the results show on Sunday 24th November at 7.20pm on BBC One and BBC One HD.

Looking back at her time in the competition with Anton, Fiona said:

It’s been the most amazing trip. I can’t thank you enough, or the producers at the BBC, for asking me to take part in this show. It’s like being a guest at the best party in the world.

It’s been fantastic, thank you. Anton has been unbelievably patient I can’t tell you. I honestly have a memory like a colander. He’s been utterly brilliant. It’s just lovely, thank you darling.
