Danny Cohen has said he’s not worried over BBC Breakfast’s forthcoming move to Salford.
The controller of BBC One doesn’t believe BBC Breakfast will be affected by its relocation.
His comments address the fact presenters Sian Williams and Chris Hollins will not follow Breakfast north. In fact only 46% of the staff on the BBC One show have decided to relocate to Salford – meaning the majority have opted not to move.
Despite the loss of Williams and Hollins, both popular with Breakfast viewers, Cohen is still confident over the shows future, stating:
“I’m not massively scared. The show and format is always more important.”.
Breakfast currently averages 1.3m with Daybreak trailing on 700,000 viewers but there are fears the move to Salford could change that. The BBC’s policy of shifting some of its production from London to Salford, and also other locations such as Glasgow, has been heavily criticised by some.
