Danny Dyer has hit back at homophobic remarks that have come his way on Twitter since Friday’s EastEnders.
Friday’s episode, watched by nearly 8 million viewers, saw Mick comfort his son Johnny (Sam Strike) after coaxing him into admitting that he is gay. Although the scene has evoked a number of ignorant comments, the episode was largely viewed favourably for the emotional father-son scene.
Hitting back at the less enlightened comments, Danny tweeted:
Here’s a little message for some of the homophobic pricks who are tweeting me……..happy new year. pic.twitter.com/0tiHPU2x01

Dyer made his debut in EastEnders as new Queen Vic landlord Mick Carter on Christmas Day – the character a big part of Executive Producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins’ plans to revitalise the flagging soap opera.
EastEnders airs Monday (8.00pm), Tuesday (7.30pm), Thursday (7.30pm) and Friday (8.00pm) on BBC One.
