EastEnders - Derek Branning, Jamie ForemanJamie Foreman has said the death of his EastEnders character Derek was “a shame” as he feels the villainous Branning brother could have made a return to Albert Square.

The character of Derek first appeared in the BBC One soap in 1996, then played by Terence Beesley, he was seen opposing his sister April’s (Debbie Arnold) wedding to a Greek man Nikos, as well as being racially abusive towards Carol’s (Lindsey Coulson) partner Alan Jackson (Howard Antony).

Derek reappeared in 2011 played by Foreman and wasted no time in making enemies around the Square before suffering a fatal heart attack on Christmas Day 2012.

Appearing on ITV’s This Morning earlier today, Foreman said of Derek:

He was a great character [and] I do miss him. It’s great, I get so much good feedback from him everywhere I go. It’s a shame that they didn’t leave him open a little bit more. I think there was a bit more mileage in him.

The actor jokingly added that he could still make a surprise Walford comeback as Derek’s twin brother.

This Morning airs weekdays from 10.30am on ITV
