Ripper-StreetRipper Street has been given a reprieve after being axed by BBC One.

The corporation axed the period thriller – which stars Matthew MacFadyen, Jerome Flynn and Adam Rothenberg – last year after two series, as it it failed to attract the audience expected of it.

However, Amazon Prime Instant Video – formerly LoveFilm – has now struck a deal that will see the drama return for a third series.

This is an exceptional opportunity to bring back Ripper Street for a third series by working with the right partners.

This deal gives fans another series of the show they love at excellent value to the licence fee payer, ensuring that the BBC can also commission an entirely new, yet to be announced drama series. – Ben Stephenson, BBC Controller of Drama Commissioning

Filming will commence on the new series in May, which will screen for the first time on Amazon Prime Instant Video before airing on BBC One a few months later. Amazon Prime has also secured exclusive rights to stream the drama’s first two series.
