Cbeebies and CBBC have ordered a second series of Katie Morag, marking the first time the beeb’s two children departments have collaborated on a series’ commission.
Katie Morag is based on the popular book series from Mairi Hedderwick that charts the adventures of a feisty red-headed girl who lives with her family on the magical island of Struay. The stories embrace the intrinsic sense of community, the preciousness of the environment and the universal tensions and joys of family life.
Series two will see some episodes shown exclusively on Cbeebies, allowing the current audience to enjoy more adventures from Katie Morag McColl, while other episodes will be shown on CBBC allowing the series to explore more complex storylines and themes aimed at the CBBC audience.
“I am thrilled that Katie Morag will be returning for series two. The first series performed really well on CBeebies, particularly with the older end of our audience. It’s fantastic to be working so closely with CBBC in commissioning the new series with exclusive episodes for both channels.” – Controller of Cbeebies, Kay Benbow
Cheryl Taylor, Controller of CBBC, adds: “I am delighted to bring Katie Morag to CBBC. This is the first time that CBBC and CBeebies have co-commissioned a series and I am really pleased to be working so closely with CBeebies. The exclusive episodes to be shown on CBBC will allow us to develop more multifaceted storylines for the older CBBC audience.”
Filming is expected to take place over the Summer on the Isle of Lewis utilising studio facilities on the island as well as the backdrop of the beautiful Hebridean landscape. The series will be shown on CBeebies and CBBC in 2015.
