Welsh funny man Rhod Gilbert is to take up full-time presenting duties on Never Mind The Buzzcocks.
The stand-up comedian will preside over the twenty-eighth series of the anarchic pop-focused comedy quiz when it returns to BBC Two later this year.
Rhod, a keen music fan, has previously filled in as a guest host on the panel gameshow with the beeb noting that his music and comedy knowledge will stand him in good stead for his role of permanent host.
“After my first Buzzcocks in 2009, I was told I was in with a shout to take over as regular host, and now, just five years later, I got the call. It has all happened so fast. Never Mind the Buzzcocks is one of those rare shows that feels like it belongs on our screens. It’s an institution, in a good way. It’s a great honour to be asked to take the reins full time and to hang out with Noel and Phill, and I’m equally excited and nervous about adding my name to those who have hosted it in the past.” – Rhod Gilbert
Never Mind The Buzzcocks debuted on BBC Two in 1996 and was hosted by Mark Lamarr until December 2005. Simon Amstell replaced Lamarr in 2006, remaining with the show until 2008. Since that time the programme has been presented by a number of guest presenters.
Also back for the new series will be regular team captains Noel Fielding and Phill Jupitus.
The twenty-eighth series will comprise of thirteen 30 minute instalments with production expected to begin later this year for transmission in the autumn.
