Benidorm actor Kenny Ireland has died at the age of 68.
The actor and theatre director portrayed swinger Donald Stewart in the popular ITV comedy, forming a screen partnership with Donald’s wife Jacqueline played by Janine Duvitski. In innuendo-laden dialogue the pair often alluded to their salacious exploits to the bemusement, and sometimes horror, of other Solana hotel regulars.
Ireland passed away earlier today (31 July) following a short battle with an undisclosed form of cancer. He has appeared in every series of ITV’s sunny sitcom to date. It was first revealed that Ireland was battling cancer last month with The Sun reporting that he was to be written out of Benidorm whilst undergoing treatment.
“We are terribly saddened to hear that Kenny Ireland has passed away, our thoughts are with his family at this time. He was a much loved actor, not only by the cast and crew on Benidorm but by the millions of fans out there.
“He appeared as Donald Stewart in Benidorm from the first episode and helped play a huge part in its success. He will be greatly missed.” – ITV
Ireland’s other credits include Auf Wiedersehen, Pet and Victoria Wood’s As Seen On TV.
