Strictly Come Dancing

Simon Webbe is the fifth celebrity confirmed for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing, with the singer confirming his participation during an appearance on ITV’s Good Morning Britain.

“I am so happy to be joining the team and I cannot wait to get started. I’m hopeful that Strictly Come Dancing will help me to improve on my daddy dancing skills. I want to make my daughter proud and no doubt she will be teaching me a pirouette or two along the way.” – Simon

Simon is no stranger to the Strictly ballroom as he previously took part in the show’s Christmas special in 2011, performing a cha-cha routine with Katya Virshilas.

He rose to fame in 2001 as a member of the boy band Blue, whose hits include All Rise, One Love and Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word featuring Elton John. The band separated in 2004 with Simon going on to enjoy brief solo success.

Five years later Blue reformed and went on to represent the United Kingdom at 2011’s Eurovision Song Contest in Germany. The band finished in eleventh place and later appeared on ITV2’s The Big Reunion – the factual series which brings bands who’ve been on hiatus back together again and documents their progress ahead of an arena tour. Blue took part in the tour that saw them visit 21 countries, playing 173 shows to over 600,000 people.

The first four celebrities confirmed for this year’s Strictly were The Saturday’s Frankie Bridge, tennis coach Judy Murray, This Morning‘s showbiz reporter Alison Hammond, and rugby star Thom Evans.
