Game Of Thrones star Maisie Williams is to star in a new drama for Channel 4 about cyber bullying.
Inspired by a number of real-life cases, Cyber Bully follows Williams’ character Casey Jacobs, a teenage girl, as she experiences the worst the web has to offer and fights to overcome her ordeal.
“It is one of the most important purposes of Channel 4 to find new ways of engaging young audiences with the cyber world and the stories that play out on the internet. This film does exactly that in a way that is gripping, relevant and fiercely public service.” – Channel 4 Head of Documentaries, Nick Mirsky
The broadcaster notes that 69% of young people in the UK have experienced some form of cyber bullying. In the most severe cases, victims can face webcam hacking, exploitation and ‘suicide trolling’.
Cyber Bully will air early next year with a supporting cast of young British talent including Ella Purnell and Jake Davies. Williams is best known for her role as Arya Stark in the popular HBO drama, which is now filming its fifth season.
