Twin Peaks
Premium US broadcaster Showtime is reviving the classic and quirky David Lynch drama Twin Peaks.

The mysterious drama originally aired on ABC between 1990 and 1991; its primary storyline was the murder of teenager Laura Palmer (Sheryl Lee). Twin Peaks was originally a huge hit for ABC with millions of viewers gripped by the quirkiness of the series and its whodunit storyline. However, once the mystery was resolved, in the second season, ratings began to fall and the axe fell soon after.

Twin Peaks starred Kyle MacLachlan, Dana Ashbrook, Lara Flynn Boyle, Ray Wise, Piper Laurie, Michael Ontkean, Sherilyn Fenn and Peggy Lipton. It was created by David Lynch and Mark Frost. The drama spawned the prequel film Fire Walk With Me following its cancellation in 1991; the film was not well received by critics and was not a box office hit.

There have been rumours of a Twin Peaks revival for several years now with NBC linked, at one point, to the drama. However, up until now the rumours have not amounted to anything. Showtime has confirmed that the drama will return to the airwaves in 2016.

Crucially the series will be a revival of the original and not a reboot/remake. The revival will continue the story of the residents of Twin Peaks but in the modern-day. The nine episodes of the revival will be jointly penned by Lynch and Frost.
