Bets are on whether Jeremy Clarkson will be dropped from Top Gear following his latest in a long succession of gaffs. Bookies are also taking bets on who could replace the permed motor mouth.
Amid a lot of undesired attention as a result of the interpretation of a registration plate in Argentina, Top Gear’s controversial lead presenter, Jeremy Clarkson (pictured centre with co-presenters Richard Hammond and James May), has come under scrutiny for all the wrong reasons. Clarkson, never known for his subtlety, was accused of referencing the Falklands war on the custom plates of his Porsche whilst filming for the BBC show Top Gear. To make matters worse, on searching the crew, police found two more plates that made reference to male genitals.
In the wake of this Argentinian debacle, the pressure really has come on Clarkson from the media, even though the BBC are doing their utmost to protect him. Bookmaker Paddy Power has quoted a price of 5/2 for Jeremy Clarkson not to present series 23 of Top Gear.
The firm has also released a market to find Clarkson’s replacement on the show. Paddy Power has installed Chris Evans as the odds on favourite at 1 /2 should Clarkson vacate his position. Steve Coogan is next in the betting at 3/1. Piers Morgan pitches up mid-market at 10/1, Rowan Atkinson and Kirsty Gallacher are at 40’s, whilst Lewis Hamilton is the 100/1 outsider.
