Waterloo Road has lost its primetime BBC One slot.
A new transmission plan will see premiere editions of the school drama air on BBC Three on Monday evenings, followed by a 10.35pm screening on its traditional home of BBC One where it currently occupies a Wednesday 8.00pm slot.
The move will take effect following the show’s Christmas break when it returns to the schedules for a final 10 episodes. The BBC announced in April that it is not re-commissioning the show.
“In order to create space in the schedule for new shows at 8pm, the final series of Waterloo Road will transmit on BBC Three in peak on Monday nights, with a repeat at 10.35pm on BBC One. It will also be available on BBC iPlayer.” BBC Spokesperson quoted by Digital Spy
The first BBC Three airing will be Monday 5 January at 8.00pm, with the show moving in subsequent weeks to accommodate EastEnders on BBC One which doesn’t air that night due to football. It will, however, remain in peak time on the youth-focused channel.
The current run of Waterloo Road has seen viewing figures fall below 3 million.
