Ben Haenow has been crowned the winner of The X Factor.
Ben saw off competition Fleur East who had been the bookies favourite to win the competition. On Saturday, Andrea Faustini finished in third place.
“Oh my god! I can’t believe it! I can’t believe it! Thank you so much for making my dream come true.” – Ben
The star-studded grand final took place at Wembley Arena in-front of an audience of 10,000 fans. Haenow’s debut single ‘Something I Need’ is available to buy from midnight on iTunes.
Ben’s mentor Simon Cowell said: “You deserved it, you’re a great guy.” He first praised the runner up Fleur, who he also mentored. Its thought both will go on to do well, with Fleur emerging as the success of the series despite not winning tonight.
Fleur earlier sung the song which got everyone talking over the past week. Her original performance of ‘Uptown Funk’ has had nearly 2 million views on YouTube. Ben performed ‘Man In The Mirror’ as the song he enjoyed the most during the series.
Tonight’s musical guests included a special performance by One Direction, who were joined on stage by Rolling Stones’ legendary guitarist Ronnie Wood. Olly Murs, Demi Lovato and Sam Smith also performed during the two-hour live final.
Mel B was back on the judging panel after missing Saturday’s live show. She thanked the medical team who made her well enough to appear tonight. It was reported in the press over the weekend that the former Spice Girl was rushed to hospital with a suspected stomach ulcer.
Ben’s win tonight marks the first time Simon Cowell has been the winning mentor since 2006. In that year he won with Leona Lewis and had Ray Quinn as runner-up. Cowell returned to the X Factor this year along with Cheryl Fernandez-Versini. Their return failed to stop the continuing fall in ratings.
Saturday’s live final part one on ITV was watched by 8.4 million viewers. The semi-final of BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing attracted 9.8 million viewers.
