Show chiefs have rescinded an earlier offer of the role to 19 year old Nottingham-born actress Katie Redford after it emerged she is in fact 25 years old.

Redford’s casting was confirmed by ITV on Friday with the age discrepancy being uncovered by fans almost immediately due to the actress posting photographs of her 25th birthday celebrations online last year.
Other sources, which gradually began to disappear from the internet, alluded to a birth date of March 2nd 1989. ATV Today was one of the first news sources to note the discrepancy.
Coronation Street released a statement over the weekend to say it was looking into the matter prior to today’s announcement that the role is to be recast. It is thought that the show already has someone in mind for the role.
Redford’s agent Jo McLintock has admitted to BBC Newsbeat that ITV were misled over her age.
“It wasn’t [Katie’s] idea to audition as a 19-year-old. People in the industry do it regularly and she sort of went along with what we said.
“I’m feeling really stressed and so sorry for Katie. It’s her first real job and she’s a star in the making – she’s a very talented young actress. I had to have a conversation with casting who said they were very disappointed. Katie is upset but she understands.” – McLintock
Redford, who is also a writer, made her film debut in 2004 and has most recently featured in movie Urban Hymn.
Tearaway teen Bethany is currently residing in Milan with her mum Sarah but will arrive unannounced on the cobbles this spring. Sarah-Louise (Tina O’Brien) will join her at a later date.
