Radio 1 DJ Fearne Cotton has announced she is leaving the station after ten years.

In a statement released on her official website, the 33-year-old also confirmed that she and husband Jesse Wood are expecting their second baby. Fearne will present her last show on Friday 22nd May, with the Radio 1 Big Weekend being her last Radio 1 event.

Fearne joined the station in 2005 and quickly rose to the prominent 10am – 1pm weekday slot, replacing Jo Whiley in 2009. The weekday show includes the popular Live Lounge segment, which will continue after Fearne has gone.

“I would like to thank Radio 1 for being such a great home and most of all to the listeners who have been on this journey with me. It’s such a kick to know you heard a band on my show first, or that the songs I’ve played have helped you through the day, so thank you.” – Fearne Cotton

Clara Amfo has been named as the new presenter for the weekday slot. She recently moved to Radio 1 to present the Official Chart Show in January. Amfo will be stepping down from hosting the Weekend Breakfast Show on 1Xtra in May to take on the new role. 1Xtra presenter Ace will replace Clara on 1Xtra.

“I am honoured and thrilled to be presenting such a huge show on Radio 1. The broadcasters who have gone before me have left an impressive trail and I hope to carry that on. Doing this job is an absolute joy and to now have the opportunity to broadcast Monday to Friday is something that I am so grateful for. I can’t wait to introduce a Live Lounge artist for the first time!” – Clara Amfo

Clara Amfo’s first weekday show on Radio 1 will be on Monday 25th May.
