The premiere of Peter Kay’s brand-new comedy series Car Share on BBC iPlayer generated a record-breaking number of requests.
“I’ve been blown away by the response so far. How could I not be. Here’s hoping the success continues…” – Peter Kay
The series premiered in full on the service from 24 to 28 April, seeing 2.8 million requests. The beeb note the stat makes it the most successful series to premiere on iPlayer as a box-set to date, with the first episode notching up over 1m requests alone and all six featuring on the ‘Most Popular’ list.
Peter Kay’s Car Share, the comedy personality’s first for BBC One, is part of BBC iPlayer’s trial to premiere 40 hours of BBC content. Its success follows on from a record-breaking year for the catch-up facility, which saw 3.5bn TV and Radio programme requests in 2014 alone.
“This is a phenomenal reaction which shows how excited audiences are to see Peter in his first scripted comedy for the BBC. We’re so proud of the show and it’s heartening that comedy does so well in the new on-demand world.” – BBC Controller of Comedy Commissioning, Shane Allen
Peter Kay’s Car Share continues on Wednesday at 9.30pm on BBC One.
