Gordon Ramsay - Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares USA

Gordon Ramsay, Joanna Lumley, Victoria Wood, Lucy Mecklenburgh, Gino D’Acampo and the Hairy Bikers have shared recipes of their favourite decadent treats to launch the National Deaf Children’s Society’s (NDCS) Big Cake Bake in Deaf Awareness Week  which runs from the 4th to the 10th of May.

To help the charity raise as much money as possible to support deaf children and young people, the celebrities have donated their delicious recipes, designed to add a little sparkle to supporters’ fundraising cake bakes.

Whilst a nice slice of Lemon Cake with Earl Grey icing adds something absolutely fabulous to Joanna Lumley’s tea breaks, Gordon Ramsay helps bakers avoid their own kitchen nightmares with a mouth-watering Blondies recipe. An ultra-healthy Gluten free Brownie fuels Lucy Mecklenburgh’s work out sessions and a Banana and Pineapple cake from the Hairy Bikers does a fabulous job of kick starting the NDCS Big Cake Bake.

All of the sweet treats are easy to make and can be sold at Big Cake Bake fundraising events in Deaf Awareness Week and throughout the summer. All money raised will help NDCS support the 45,000 deaf children in the UK, 90 per cent of whom are from hearing families with no prior experience of deafness.

Lucy Mecklenburgh, who chose to add a healthy touch to the celebrity recipe collection said:

“NDCS do so much to help deaf children and their families, I was only too glad to support the Big Cake Bake with my gluten free recipe, whilst also spreading the message that healthy eating can be fun. I hope that all budding bakers out there will get involved, start planning their cake bakes and raise as much as possible to make life better for deaf children and young people.”

Also in Deaf Awareness Week, NDCS will be publishing new research on the impact of mild to moderate deafness on the educational achievements of school children and busting a series of deaf myths. To view the celebrity recipes or find out more about Deaf Awareness Week please visit www.ndcs.org.uk/bigcakebake

“Every penny raised through the Big Cake Bake will help us deliver a range of services, including weekends for families whose child has just been diagnosed as deaf. These weekends are a lifeline for many parents, providing them with emotional support and much-needed information about their child’s deafness. We are truly grateful that so many household names are helping us in such a fun way to improve the lives of deaf children and young people across the UK”. – Clare Salter, NDCS Head of Community, Corporate and Events Fundraising
