Former Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan has landed the top job in the second series of BBC One war drama Our Girl.
The Mirror newspaper reports the 28-year-old actress will play a different army medic to that portrayed by EastEnders actress Lacey Turner who starred as Molly Dawes in the first series, which saw storylines set in Afghanistan.
Series two will be set in Kenya, East Africa and run for five episodes, the beeb programme resumes filming in January for transmission on BBC One later in 2016. The first series proved popular with audiences, reaching over six million. However since the airing of the first run of episodes of Our Girl Lacey Turner has returned to her role as Stacey Branning in the Walford set soap opera, and it seems EastEnders bosses can’t find the time to allow Turner to reprise her medic character for the second outing.
The tabloid reports Michelle Keegan, best known as Tina McIntyre in ITV’s top rating saga Coronation Street, has been offered a £250,000 deal to star in the drama as Corporal Georgie Lane
“I’m a massive fan of the series so I can’t wait to be a part of it. It’s going to be a big but exciting challenge for me.” – Michelle Keegan quoted in The Mirror
The paper adds that Michelle has previously impressed corporation bosses with her performance as a drug mule in beeb drama Ordinary Lies.
