Call the Midwife actress Helen George will be a contestant on Strictly Come Dancing 2015.
The actress’s participation was confirmed by Charlotte Moore, Controller of BBC One, at the Edinburgh TV Festival today (26 August).
“I’m really excited to be joining Strictly. I know it’s going to be a challenge and if I’m honest I’m slightly terrified, but I can’t wait to get my tan and sequins on!” – Helen George
Best known for playing Nurse Trixie Franklin in BBC One’s popular period drama, Helen trained at The Birmingham School of Acting and later – via help from The Ian Fleming Awards – in Musical Theatre at The Royal Academy of Music. Stage roles include Andrew Lloyd Webber’s original cast of The Woman in White, Into The Woods and Helena in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. She has provided backing vocals on tour with Elton John and in prestigious venues such as The Royal Albert Hall and Wembley Arena while her film credits include Paul W S Anderson’s remake of The Three Musketeers, 7Lives and Scar Tissue.
Helen is the thirteenth celebrity confirmed for this year’s series and joins Jamelia, Anita Rani, Jay McGuiness, Anthony Ogogo, Daniel O’Donnell, Peter Andre, Carol Kirkwood, Katie Derham, Georgia May Foote, Kellie Bright, Ainsley Harriott and Jeremy Vine in the line-up.
Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One next month. The remaining two celebrities will be unveiled on tomorrow’s (27 August) The One Show.
