The Smalls Film Festival are delighted to announce that it will hold its tenth edition from 4th – 9th September at the Hoxton Arches in London.
The five day festival showcases inspiring and exciting new short films of up to 20mins in length and aims to inspire and educate those in the field with a series of industry talks, masterclasses, screenings and networking events.
2015 marks the 10th anniversary of The Smalls Film Festival and to celebrate 10 years of exceptional talent from its community of filmmakers, it will deliver its biggest festival yet! An official opening party will kick off this year’s programme on 4th September, where attendees will be able to look ahead to the forthcoming programme of events, which will include A Conversation with Kim Longinotto a look back over her exceptional filmmaking career as a documentary maker.
This year’s industry masterclasses include: ‘Watch my Film! Getting your Shorts into Festivals’, ‘Documentary – Telling Big Stories through Small Films’ and a special discussion from Shutterstock on ‘Stock Video – Turning Your Cutting Room Floor into Cash’. Festivalgoers will also be able to see the outstanding 2015 Oscar winning short The Phone Call which was shot on a zero budget and garnered a first Academy Award nomination and win for writer/director Mat Kirkby, and writer James Lucas.
Hundreds of filmmakers submitted their work for inclusion, and this year’s notable judges have selected and shortlisted 35 exceptional and exciting short films to view at this year’s festival; which fall under the following categories animation, comedy, documentary, drama and music videos. The shorts will be screened from Sunday 6th – Tuesday 8th September and will be available to view via iPads and iPods throughout the festival.
Attendees can look forward to shorts such as Dark_Net by Tom Marshall a comedy featuring comedian Johnny Vegas and 11 world premieres which includes Flinch by Tom Bacon, a drama starring Fresh Meat star Zawe Ashton and a heartwarming East London documentary entitled Steamers by Rebeccca Coley. At the Closing Night Awards Gala on 9th September, judges will announce one winner from each category to be awarded a unique prize for their strand.
Prior to the film screenings, attendees will also have the chance to see a short film that was commissioned from the festival’s lead sponsor, Western Digital – one of the world’s leading providers of storage solutions for digital media. Western Digital will also be showcasing its range of external hard drives and network attached storage products targeted to the creative industries.
