This year’s X Factor hopefuls are to be filmed 24/7 in a bid to boost ratings, according to The Sunday Mirror.

The publication claims that Simon Cowell has given the go ahead to round-the-clock footage of the contestants, who will be living in a mansion during the competition. It further notes that the media mogul is hoping the cameras will capture some romantic interaction after a number of contestants from previous series have embarked upon relationships.

“Simon wants to cash in on the public knowing all about the behind-the-scenes romances and maybe showing them on The Xtra Factor. He is up against it in the ratings with Strictly Come Dancing and believes this could be a trump card.” – X Factor insider

Cowell reportedly finds the idea “exciting” and thinks that the fans will “love it”. The new series of the X Factor has continued to lose viewers year-on-year. Its main rival, BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing continues to shine, rating up to 9 million viewers.

The X Factor is currently relegated to Sunday night’s only due to the Rugby World Cup. Show bosses had hoped that the introduction of new judges Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora would boost the show’s ratings.

It was reported last month that Louis Walsh will return as a ‘fifth judge’ during the live shows where he will act as an impartial voice.

The X Factor continues tonight on ITV at 7pm with the six-chair challenge.
