This weekend Strictly Come Dancing came from the ‘British home of ballroom’ the world famous Blackpool Tower, where during the annual spectacular from the coastal resort Jamelia became the eighth contestant to leave the competition.
For one weekend only, Strictly Come Dancing packed its bags and relocated to the Blackpool Tower Ballroom – home for many years to the original Come Dancing series – where there was plenty of sparkle, joy and magical moments. The stakes were raised for the celebrities and their professional dance partners, as they edge closer to the grand final next month.
Jamelia was the red hot favourite with bookies to be eliminated from Strictly this weekend with William Hill making her 2/9. Kellie was the 8/1 second favourite. Yesterday’s odds saw Jay remaining the favourite to win at 8/13 with Georgia 11/4 second favourite.
“It seems as though Jamelia has used up all of her luck and she is finally going to go this week having been favourite for five of the last eight eliminations,” – William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly, speaking yesterday.
In the Strictly results show the Judges’ marks were combined with the results of the viewers’ votes to decide the lowest scoring two couples who would have to take on the dance off. This week, it was singer and presenter Jamelia and her professional partner Tristan MacManus against singer and telly Personality Peter Andre and his professional partner, Janette Manrara.
Both couples performed their routines again; Jamelia and Tristan did their Quickstep to ‘I’m a Believer’ by The Monkees and Peter and Janette performed their Jive to ‘River Deep, Mountain High’ by Tina Turner in a bid to impress the judges and remain in the competition. Judges Craig, Darcey and Bruno all decided to save Peter, with Len disagreeing: ‘I thought Jamelia and Tristan did a very very fine Quickstep’ he noted, adding he’d have opted to keep them in the battle of the glitterball.
“I’m sorry to go, I do have to say I’ve had the most fantastic time. I’ve made the most amazing set of friends, I’ve danced at the Tower Ballroom and I’ve danced with Tristan MacManus a million times! I just feel so fortunate to have had this experience and I hope that I’ve shown people that if you are determined and if you work hard then you can surpass whatever you think. I thought I was only going to get to week three and be gone but I’m here at the Tower Ballroom and made it to Blackpool, I’m happy! I’ve said it over and over again, I could not have had a better partner than Tristan, he’s so fantastic, so positive and he really has believed in me. It’s down to him why I’ve made it all the way to Blackpool, thank you!” – Jamelia
Strictly Come Dancing Sunday’s Results Show featured two special music performances. The first from Take That who arrived in the ballroom in spectacular fashion performing their new single ‘Hey Boy‘ and the second from singer Anastacia who performed her classic track ‘I’m Outta Love‘.
The remaining seven couples are now safely though to next week when Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One on Saturday 28th November at 6.50pm. The results show will follow on Sunday 29th November at 7.20pm on BBC One and will include a brand new feature, the Quickstepathon which offers a chance for the remaining couples to earn valuable extra points.
Current odds seeJay McGuiness the favourite to win Strictly at 4/6 but it was Georgia May Foote that had the judges in raptures, she is the 9/4 second favourite. Peter Andre once again disappointed and is now a 20/1 outsider.
“Georgia is an awesome dancer and the public are starting to believe that she will win Strictly 2015,” – William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.
