The Only Way Is Essex‘s ‘Nanny Pat’ has died at the age of 80.
The TV star – real name Patricia Brooker – is the grandmother of Mark and Jessica Wright and became notable for her sausage plait, sharp one-liners and pearls of wisdom.
The popular cast member of ITVBe’s (formerly ITV2) hit scripted-reality show passed away this morning (16 December) following a ‘short illness’, a statement released by her family discloses.
“Sadly our amazing, courageous and beautiful Nanny Pat passed away this morning after a short illness.
“We are overwhelmed by sadness, and the whole family ask for privacy at this horrible time.” – The Wright and Brooker family
“My heart is broken but to know good ole Nanny was loved by so many is the best feeling in the world,” Grandson Mark tweeted.
Co-stars have paid tribute to the popular star on Twitter.

Nanny Pat appeared on every series of TOWIE and in a recent episode celebrated her 80th birthday.
Her autobiography, Penny Sweets and Cobbled Streets: My East End Childhood, was released in 2012.
