Jay McGuiness and his professional partner Aliona Vilani have been crowned champions of Strictly Come Dancing 2015.
The pair triumphed over Georgia May Foote & Giovanni Pernice and Kellie Bright & Kevin Clifton to take home the glitterball trophy in tonight’s grand final. Katie Derham & Anton du Beke finished in fourth place earlier in the show.
“It’s been one of the most special things that I’ve ever done with the most special person [Aliona]… anyone that helped us get here and enjoyed what we were doing, I’m really happy that you liked it.” – Jay McGuiness
In the first of two live shows this evening the finalists performed a routine chosen by the judges, before returning to the floor with a no rules, no-holds-barred show dance.
Jay and Aliona’s judge’s choice was the Quickstep to My Generation, while their show dance was to The Weeknd’s Can’t Feel My Face. Georgia and Giovanni performed the Rumba to Writing’s on the Wall for the judges and a show dance to Fix You by Coldplay. Kellie and Kevin had the judge’s choice of the Tango to You Really Got Me, while their show dance was to Cherry Poppin’ Daddies’ The Ding-Dong Daddy of the D-Car Line. Katie and Anton danced the Quickstep to 42nd Street, before performing their show dance to O Fortuna by Carl Orff.
Katie was eliminated at the start of the second live show with the three remaining couples going on to perform their favourite dance of the series.
Jay and Aliona opted for their Paso Doble to It’s My Life from Week 5, Georgina and Giovanni chose their Charleston to Hot Honey Rag from Week 8 while Kellie and Kevin also revisited their Charleston to Cantina Band from Movie Week.
Tonight’s final show also featured Ellie Goulding performing Love Me like You Do, while the Strictly Class of 2015 took to the floor for one last dance.
The result was then announced with an emotional Jay lifting the glitterball trophy with Aliona.
Georgia said of the result: “I’m so happy, all I wanted to do was get to the final. I couldn’t be happier.”
Kellie added: “I’ve had the best time and I’m glad I got to see it through to the end.”
Strictly Come Dancing will return to BBC One on Christmas Day when six former contestants take to the dance floor in a one off special.
