Piccadilly Press recently announced that former Home and Away actress Isla Fisher is to write at least three novels for young people for the publisher.
“I’m so delighted that Piccadilly Press will bring Marge In Charge to life – now that I have children of my own I see the joy and magic in their everyday lives and books are a crucial part of this. I hope together we can introduce MARGE to as many family bedtimes as possible!”- Isla Fisher
The acquisition of a new series of young fiction by actress Isla Fisher will see the company take on the world rights (excl North America) for three books. The partnership was negotiated by Piccadilly Press founder Brenda Gardner, before her retirement, with Curtis Brown. Commissioning editor Matilda Johnson will be editor on the series going forward, with Isla who is represented by Stephanie Thwaites at Curtis Brown. The books, which each contain three stories, will be illustrated by Eglantine Ceulemans and the first will publish in July 2016.
Marge In Charge is a hilarious, anarchic adventure about eccentric babysitter Marge, who comes to look after young Jemima and Jake whilst their parents have an evening out. Marge looks sensible at first but soon reveals her true character, breaking all the rules, feeding her charges chocolate soup and playing dress-up in mum’s closet. Ultimately it’s up to Jemima and Jake to take responsibility for their bonkers babysitter, reading HER a bedtime story and sending her off to bed. These stories are jam-packed with fun and mischief and the best part is – Mum and Dad never find out!
“We’re all incredibly excited to have Isla on the list – she is one of those rare people who has a natural gift for really making people laugh. Eglantine’s illustrations are perfect for these lively stories and endearing characters, and last but not least I am thrilled to be working with the unstoppable Marge!” – Tilda Johnson
Isla Fisher began acting as a child and has worked in television and film for the past 25 years. She has appeared in Confessions of a Shopaholic, The Great Gatsby and Wedding Crashers to name but a few. She is possibly best known to UK audiences for her long running role as Shannon Reed in serial Home and Away. She also trained at a clown school in Paris for two years.
Isla has played many roles over the years but her favourite one has been being a mummy to daughters Olive and Elula and son Monty. Isla has been making up stories at bedtime for them every night since they were born and the Marge books are a reminder of all the fun they have at bedtime reading books and sharing stories.
