Birds of a Feather to return for festive special

Following previous Christmas specials shot in the USA, Berlin and Ireland, Birds of a Feather is heading abroad once more for another festive edition.

“We’re delighted and excited to be embarking on a new adventure with these three incomparable characters. We don’t want to give away too many secrets, but we promise the ITV audience a rollicking Christmas adventure.” – Show creators, Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran

For the first time in nearly twenty years this December sitcom Birds of a Feather will return to ITV in a feature length hour long special to air over the festive period. Pauline Quirke (Emmerdale), Linda Robson (Crossroads) and Lesley Joseph (Night and Day) return as the original Essex girls Sharon Theodopolopodos, Tracey Stubbs and Dorien Green in a brand new story for the popular trio.

The special will see the ladies on an adventure that takes them to sunnier places they’ve never been before…far from the comforts of Chigwell. The episode will be written by the series regular writing team of creators Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran with Gary Lawson and John Phelps.

“Fans of the show have a real treat in store for them this Christmas.  Travel can test the strongest of relationships, but when mayhem and mishap are thrown into the mix, how closely will our Birds of a Feather stick together?.” – ITV’s Comedy Commissioner Saskia Schuster

Birds Of A Feather began back in 1989 airing on BBC One. After eight years and 102 episodes, airing over nine series, the comedy was last screened on the beeb in 1998. Fifteen years later the production was revived by ITV and to date three series and 24 new editions have been produced for the network.

The storyline originally followed sisters Sharon, who is down on her luck, and well-off sibling Tracey along with their tarty neighbour Dorien. Sharon and Tracey are often left on their own, with their husbands both behind bars. The revival saw both sisters divorced, with Tracey having re-married. Dorien is no longer the affluent neighbour and ends up lodging with Tracey. Sharon also returns to the home when she’s found to be living in squalor.
