The forerunner to Terry and June is to be released on DVD later this month.
Happy Ever After starring June Whitfield and Terry Scott proved a hit with BBC One viewers when it aired for the first time back in May 1974. The show would run for five series, producing forty one episodes by the time it left television screens in 1979.
Now viewers can relive the exploits of telly’s happiest hapless couple, Terry and June Fletcher as a middle-aged, middle-class couple in middle England whose children recently left home in Happy Ever After: The Complete Collection.
Directed and produced by BAFTA winners Ray Butt of Only Fools and Horses fame and Yes Minister’s Peter Whitmore it arrives on DVD from the 26th September 2016. Once Happy Ever After ended Scott and Whitfield would be reunited in the similar series Terry and June where they played Terry and June Medford. Their second successful project would run until 1987 with nine series and 65 episodes.
Terry Scott, best known for his appearances in the Carry On films, died in 1994. June Whitfield, now 90, is still working having recently appeared in BBC soap opera EastEnders and the Ab Fab movie.
Also released by Simply Media this month is fellow BBC comedy Joint Account: The Complete Series 1 & 2. Belinda Braithwaite, played by Hannah Gordon, works full-time while David (Peter Egan) is a ‘stay-at-home-Dad’. When Belinda wants to quit her exhausting job for a simpler life David has other ideas.
