Chiwetel Ejiofor, Jack O’Connell, Lily James, Rosamund Pike, Sophie Turner, Stephen Graham, Toby Jones and Will Poulter have joined forces with renowned British photographer and film maker Greg Williams who has created a series of poignant films and photographs for Stand Up To Cancer.
“Stand Up To Cancer brings together some of the brightest stars of the entertainment industry to shine a spotlight on the need to do more research into a disease that affects so many of us. I lost my mum to cancer, so this is a cause incredibly close to my heart and I’m proud to be a part of it. These films and the collection of images illustrate the odds of getting cancer; 1 in 2 people will be diagnosed with it in their life time. There’s no doubt that that’s an incredibly scary fact but over the last few decades we’ve made amazing progress against cancer and if we continue to fund research we will save lives.” – Creative director of the series, Greg Williams
Shot in black and white, the films and photographs show the A-list British actors tossing a coin and checking to see which side it lands on, demonstrating the statistic that 1 in 2 people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime*.
The actors took part in the shoot to raise awareness of Stand Up To Cancer’s work to fund research that will result in kinder treatments and cures for cancer patients in the UK and will ultimately save lives. Many of the stars involved in the shoot have been personally affected by cancer, with both Jack O’Connell and Lily James losing their fathers to the disease.
Stand Up To Cancer is a joint national fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4. Launched in the UK in 2012, more than £25 million has been raised in the UK, supporting more than 30 clinical trials and projects.
