Channel 4 has unleashed the celebrity names who are to enter the dome as they take part in a one-off celebrity special of The Crystal Maze.
Hosted by Stephen Merchant and filmed at The Crystal Maze Experience in London, the show which will air in the run up to Stand Up To Cancer, will see the five celebrities take on the Aztec, Medieval, Futuristic and Industrial zones before sending them in to face the fans in the iconic Crystal Dome.
Football legend and BT Sport presenter Rio Ferdinand, and former Corrie actress Michelle Keegan will be hoping to crack the crystal in this special edition of the legendary gameshow. Completing the celebrity team will be Paralympics champ Jonnie Peacock, TV and radio host Sara Cox, and comedian Josh Widdicombe. The Crystal Maze returns after a 21-year absence from our screens as part of Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer campaign this October.
Stand Up To Cancer is a joint national fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4. The Crystal Maze is a Banijay format.
The original show was first aired in 1990 and was first hosted by Rocky Horror legend Richard O’Brien who proved a tough act to follow when Ed Tudor-Pole took over for the final years. Over six series the game show became cult viewing as a team of contestants pitted their wits against the clock within four zones of games to gain entry to the Crystal Dome where they grabbed hopefully a special prize. Reruns can often be caught on game show network Challenge TV.
