Greg Rutherford is the ninth celebrity to depart the dance floor in Strictly Come Dancing 2016
“It’s been one of the most of incredible things in my life. I’ve been very lucky in my life, I’ve done some amazing things but this is truly one of the best things I’ve done. I’ve much such a good friend here.” – Greg Rutherford
This weekend, Strictly Come Dancing was live from the famous Blackpool Tower and it was the battle of the Olympians as Greg Rutherford became the ninth contestant to leave the show – he faced Claudia Fragapane in the tower ballroom dance off.
The judges’ scores were combined with the results of the viewers’ vote to decide the two lowest scoring couples to face each other in the dance off. This week, that was World Champion Long Jumper Greg Rutherford and his professional partner Natalie Lowe and Olympic Gymnast Claudia Fragapane and her professional partner AJ Pritchard.
Both couples performed their routines again; Greg and Natalie did their Quickstep to ‘Hand Jive’ by Cha Na Na and Claudia and AJ performed their Jive to ‘Hey Mickey’ by Toni Basil in a bid to impress the judges and remain in the competition. After both couples had danced a second time, all judges agreed to save Claudia.
The results show also included two musical performances from Rick Astley and Simple Minds. Also next weekend, all six couples will dance a Cha Cha at the same time in the Cha Cha Challenge, which is brand new for 2016 and is where everyone will be hoping to impress the judges for valuable extra points.
“It now looks like a two horse race between Danny and Louise but Ed Balls is the joker in the pack and he cannot be ruled out. We have seen some extraordinary result in the last year or so with Leicester winning the EPL, Brexit and Donald Trump – this could be a similar surprise.” – William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.
Strictly Winner Odds: 10/11 Danny Mac, 9/4 Louise Redknapp, 7/1 Ed Balls, 10/1 Ore Oduba, 12/1 Claudia Fragapane, 20/1 Robert Rinder
Ratings wise as usual it was the beeb show that took the lead with the 6.55pm dance show pulling in 10.97 million viewers to BBC One. (48.7%) while ITV’s search for a gimmick singer pulled in just 6.13 million. (28.2%)
The remaining six celeb couples will return to the dance floor on Saturday 26th November at 7pm with the results show on Sunday 27th November at 7.20pm on BBC One.
