This weekend contestants had the opportunity to gain extra points from the judges in the Cha Cha Challenge which saw all six remaining couples take to the dance floor at the same time.

Ed and his partner Katya Jones found themselves in the dreaded dance off alongside Judge Rinder star Robert Rinder and Oksana Platero in tonight’s results programme.

Seeking to impress the judging panel and secure their place in the competition, each couple performed their routine from Saturday again with Ed and Katya doing their Tango to (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction by The Rolling Stones and Judge Rinder and Oksana doing their Rumba to Lean On Me by Bill Withers.

After both couples had danced for survival the judges delivered their verdicts with Craig Revel Horwood, Bruno Tonioli and Darcey Bussell forming a majority in saving Judge Rinder and Oksana while head judge Len Goodman confirmed his vote would’ve been in line with theirs.

“If people watching have had half the fun I’ve had learning to dance with Katya then they must have had a complete blast because it’s been such a fabulous thing. The judges, all the supporters, the make-up team, the wardrobe, in particular that band are the best in the world. It’s just wonderful.

Above all the only reason we have been able to learn and to entertain is because of Katya, and it’s her first series. She is going to go on to be a total dynamite, knock-out Strictly star, she is just the best there is. Absolutely amazing. She is utterly brilliant.

“And to all the people who have kept me in this long, thank you very much I’m very grateful, I’ve had a wonderful time.” – Ed Balls

Tonight’s results show also featured a musical performance from Ellie Goulding.
