Tom Owen, son of actor Bill Owen, has criticised the BBC for not giving Last of the Summer Wine a proper finale.
The actor joined the series in 2000 following the death of actor Bill Owen who played Compo in the long-running comedy series.
The BBC announced earlier in the summer that the next series of Last of the Summer Wine would be its last – confirming years of cancellation rumours. However, the news came after filming had wrapped on the series meaning no proper final episodes were written.
“The BBC could have at least done us the courtesy of finishing the series with a specially-written episode.” – Tom Owen quoted in The Sun
Over the years Last of the Summer Wine has starred a number of household names such as Kathy Staff, Bill Owen, Thora Hird, June Whitfield, Frank Thornton, Stephen Lewis, Peter Sallis, Jean Alexander and Brian Wilde.
The countryside sitcom also spawned, in the 1980s, a short-lived prequel series; First of the Summer Wine.
