CBS: Renewed and Cancelled

CBS: Renewed and Cancelled

We round up the cancellation and renewal orders for CBS’s drama’s and comedies with the surprise cancellation of Ghost Whisperer, renewal of Medium, and the broadcasters remake of Hawaii Five-O all featuring on our round-up.

Renewed:  It’s a bit of a mixed bag for CBS this year with its renewals and cancellations as the network has dumped seven shows but has renewed quite a few of its regular slate. After moving to CBS from NBC last year Medium is one of the shows that has been renewed – perhaps at the expense of Ghost Whisperer. The two shows were paired up by the broadcaster because they shared a similar premise but we guess logic said that really only one show was ever going to survive and that was Medium. The CSI franchise has also been renewed but then that wasn’t much of a surprise. Although ratings may be flagging a bit for CSI, CSI: Miami and CSI: New York they are all still ratings pullers and big international sellers so to be honest we can’t say we’re surprised they’ll be back – although perhaps with one or two tweaks we’re told.

CBS has also renewed Criminal Minds and also picked up the proposed spin-off from the series. The Mentalist, NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles have all been renewed as well while The Good Wife was handed a renewal order earlier in the season though some now speculate CBS may have been a little too quick to renew the series. Comedies such as How I Met Your Mother, The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men have also been renewed. There was some doubt over the future of Two and a Half Men when it emerged that actor Charlie Sheen was prepared to quit the comedy even though it had been renewed but all was resolved yesterday when it was announced Sheen had signed a new contract. Also renewed by CBS is: The Amazing Race, Survivor and Rules of Engagement. It’s planned remake of Hawaii Five-O; with Alex O’Loughlin, Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park has also been picked up for a series by CBS.

Cancelled: Well there are quite a few causalities this time around with perhaps the highest profile ones being The New Adventures of Old Christine and Ghost Whisperer. While the comedy had been struggling in the ratings for some time the axing of supernatural series Ghost Whisperer did come as a shock. Fans of both shows hope that ABC, which produces them, will step in and pick them up – we say don’t hold your breath. Also axed were Cold Case and Numb3rs all of which were expected while CBS also cancelled Accidentally on Purpose, Gary Unmarried, Miami Medical and Three Rivers.
