Former Doctor Who actor David Tennant has been cast in the remake of the 1985 cult classic Fright Night. Tennant, in a surprise casting move, will take on the role of Peter Vincent in the remake – actor Roddy McDowall played the character in the original film. The movie also stars Colin Farrell, Toni Collette, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Anton Yelchin. The movie is being directed by Craig Gillespie who is the producer/director of United States of Tara. The plot of the film involves teenager Charlie (Anton Yelchin) who becomes convinced that is neighbour (Farrell) is in fact a vampire. So Charlie turns to Peter Vincent (Tennant) to help deal with the creature of the night.
David Tennant played the role of The Doctor from 2005 until last year when he handed over the role to Matt Smith. Since leaving the role he has appeared in the critically acclaimed Royal Shakespeare Production of Hamlet and Rex is Not Your Lawyer – a pilot episode for an American series which NBC ultimately decided not to go with. The actor will also appear in a new BBC Drama series, Single Father, opposite Suranne Jones.
