The concluding part of BBC One documentary Diamond Queen, examining the reign of Queen Elisabeth II, managed to (narrowly) beat ITV drama Whitechapel at 9pm last night.
The documentary, fronted by Andrew Marr, featured contributions from members of the Royal Family and proved to be of interest to 5.8 million viewers. The final part saw Diamond Queen over-take Whitechapel, again, in the 9pm ratings battle. A new instalment of the ITV drama starring Phil Davis and Rupert Penry-Jones had 5.5 million viewers at 9pm with an additional 270,000 viewers watching on the time-shift channel which narrows the gap between Whitechapel and Diamond Queen considerably.
Elsewhere last night Skins continued to under perform for E4 with the latest episode pulling in 370,000 viewers at 10pm with a further 100,00 watching an hour later via the time-shift channel. While an improvement on previous weeks it is still lower than previous seasons but final ratings for the episode are bound to rise and downloads from 4 OnDemand will also see the episodes ratings rise further.
