Piers Wenger, producer of Doctor Who, is to leave BBC Wales and join Film4 it has been announced.
Wenger is producer on Doctor Who alongside Beth Wills and head-writer Steven Moffat. Wenger joined BBC Wales in 2007 and since joining has over seen the revival of period drama Upstairs Downstairs and the critically acclaimed Sherlock – also penned by Steven Moffat. Wenger became a producer on Doctor Who following the departure of Russell T. Davies and along with Moffat oversaw its reboot with Matt Smith in the title role.
Wenger is leaving to join Film4, part of Channel Four, as the senior commissioning executive. Bethan Jones will be acting head of drama for BBC Wales until the end of June when Faith Penhale will take on the role. The BBC has indicated they are looking for a replacement for Wenger for his duties on Doctor Who.
