The German city of Dusseldorf will host the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest following the country’s victory earlier this year with Satellite by Lena Meyer-Landrut.

 

The German city of Dusseldorf will host the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest following the country’s victory earlier this year with Satellite by Lena Meyer-Landrut. The 2010 contest was held in Oslo, Norway and memorable saw a stage intrusion during the performance by Daniel Diges for Spain. Owing to the intrusion Spain was allowed to perform their song again following the other performances by the participating countries.

 

The competition was won by Germany with 246 votes with Lena Meyer-Landrut singing Satellite – a catchy pop song. Turkey came second in the competition with 170 points and Romania in third place with 162 points. The song charted across Europe reaching Number 1 in home-country German and Sweden but in the UK only reached Number 30. Dusseldorf will play host to the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011 beating other German cities such as Hamburg, Hanover and the capital, Berlin.
