E4 is set to commissioned a new comedy series from Lime Pictures, its first sitcom, from Hollyoaks writers Heather Robson and Neil Jones, which the channel hopes to pair up with The Inbetweeners. The female centric sitcom from Lime Pictures, provisionally titled Sex and the Chippy, has been devised and written by Robson and Jones with additionally material from Plus One writers Tim Allsop and Stuart Williams. The pilot is being directed by Ben Palmer who has directed The Inbetweeners.

Filming begins in September with a broadcast date of next year. Channel Four has significantly increased its comedy output over recent years with Plus One, The Inbetweeners and The IT Crowd a few examples while it has acquired The British Comedy Awards from ITV and had successful with its Alternative Election Night and Comedy Gala. Lime Pictures previous foray into the world of comedy – in a comedy/drama – was for ITV1; the Liza Tarbuck series Bonkers. It was launched alongside Benidorm but was axed after one series because of low ratings – a fate that befell another Lime series, Apparitions for the BBC. Starring Martin Shaw, Apparitions was an exorcism drama that failed to rate well with audiences.
